A DETAIL ORIENTED, PROBLEM SOLVING, HEAD IN THE CLOUDS, FEET ON THE GROUND, RED-ORANGE KIND OF GUY.

Matthew Luken…

…is a fervent User Experience and Service Designer.

Art and Science – For 20+ years, I have been a consummate watcher of people and process – learning about what we do and asking why. Curious, driven and empathic, plans of process improvements and redesigns are constantly running through my head. When marinated to perfection, those plans are delivered as sketches, drawings, flow charts, wire frames, schematics and info graphics – whatever serves to best tell the story.

People and Process – As we’ve all learned, telling the story isn’t always enough. Bringing people and teams together to share and sell it is critical to deliver needed impact. Through socialization, business cases, cost / benefit analysis, presentations and reports I have moved projects from whiteboard to production.

Technology and Design – It is not enough to just conceptualize a plan or get it paid for; it needs to be created, prototyped, built, tested, proven and executed – quickly and flawlessly. With experience in self-delivery, as well as leadership of up to 132 implementers, I have delivered projects with budgets as little as $18.67 to several million dollars.

Together we can create. Together we can build. Together we can deliver. You will often find me at the whiteboard, pen in hand, poised at the ready. What’s your story? Let’s get started.

User Experience Design (UX / UXD)- Designing how a user interacts, perceives, learns and uses a product. Primarily my solutions have been for websites, user interaction, process engineering and form design. With several years of experience, I have been responsible for designing all user, IT-based interactions between “I want” and “I have” for a major airline, including business readiness solutions, training programs and lifecycle solutions.

Service Design – Finding solutions to enhance the customer / user experience beyond basic interaction; seamlessly joining planning, people, infrastructure, communication and material components together to improve quality. I bring 20+ years of experience in banking, government and transportation-related IT solution architecture.

Information Architecture (IA) – Creating structure and meaning out of information; modeling the activities of complex systems including web development, user interaction, enterprise architecture and critical system design. Great IA empowers great designs and lets great content flourish. I build sites and systems that allow users to not just navigate, but explore and master with ease. For awesome designs to come to life they have to convey both meaning and structure. A multi-million dollar project can be rendered useless if the “from-here-to-there” is convoluted or confusing.

Large-scale designs to small, simple websites begin with a plan and a picture that tells a story – the same story – to leadership, builders and other designers. My strong skills have allowed me to share the story and the vision in simple, elegant designs of multi-million dollar infrastructure projects to countless websites and web forms.

Project Management – planning, organizing and managing resources to achieve defined goals. From one person to over 130 people, projects with multi-million dollar budgets and long timelines, to turnkey projects and those with no budgets – the projects I have led have been delivered on-time, on-budget and with owner satisfaction.
